Are you curious about Sámi perspectives on special education? The new course PED-1002 Introduction to Sámi perspectives on special education, 7.5 credits, starts in January. This is a unique opportunity to learn about special education provision for Sámi children and youth in the countries now called Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia from Sámi educators and special education teachers. The course is given totally online in Canvas. Lectures are video filmed and can be watched when convenient for you. Reciprocal learning takes place in written discussions in Canvas, but it is also possible to meet me and perhaps fellow students during the digital open office hours held regularly in zoom with me the course leader.

In this course we introduce students to Sámi perspectives on special education. Students will learn the basics of special education from Sámi perspectives. Sámi children and youth in need of special support are dependent on dominant, colonial education systems that may not align with Sámi ways of knowing, being and doing.
