Information regarding the corona virus

The Sámi University of Applied Sciences (SUAS) monitors the corona virus situation continuously and puts measures into action based on advises from the authorities and own assessments. Health and safety is the number one priority, even though we have no indication saying that any of our students or staff has been infected by the virus.

Campus /Diehtosiida

Diehtosiida (SUAS’ campus) will be closed for all students. Students’ key cards will no longer give access. Staff is advised to work from home. Do not come to Diehtosiida if you are ill or getting sick. This applies even if you do not suspect being infected by the corona virus. Staff should rather work at home, than possibly infecting coworkers.  Do not invite/let in guests and visitors to Diehtosiida.

Following national advice on preventing the spread of corona infection, will all SUAS’ seminars and conferences until June will be posponed. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause for the individual, and will return with more information as soon as possible.

The municipal doctor has advised that we should be especially careful when we have been traveling, if the virus accompanies to Kautokeino. Because of this, employees who now are arriving home from travels will work from home for the rest of this week and next week, even if they do not have any flu symptoms. Do not travel if it is not needed.

Quarantine after traveling

The Regulations stipulate that persons arriving in Norway from other countries must undergo quarantine for 14 days after entry into Norway. The Regulations apply to persons who have arrived in Norway after 27 February 2020.

  • From 17th of March this also applies to persons arriving in Norway from Sweden or Finland.

If you suspect that you are infected with the corona virus (flu symptoms) or you have been in contact with someone who has the corona virus:

  1. Stay at home and contact your GP or the emergency room. Insulation duration is max 14 days.
  2. A throat and nasopharynx sample will be taken and sent to UNN Tromsø. Test results take about 1-2 days.
  3. If the test is positive, the municipal doctor starts to investigate where the corona virus infection comes from

Everyone is encouraged to follow the recommendations given by the authorities of the area/country they are in (for example Sweden or Finland) and to take responsibility for our common health.

The government has introduced comprehensive measures that will have consequences for the Sámi University of Applied Sciences. We will return with more information.
